Youth Programs
Youth programs at the First Church in Malden include Sunday School year round, Quest and Young Adventurers special events for grade 4-8, Confirmation classes for youth, a music program, including available piano lessons, and a very active Senior High Youth Fellowship.
Senior High Youth Fellowship
A unique program. Believing that all young people need a positive experience with people of faith, the First Church has created a youth program for Senior High School aged young people that is unique in many ways. First of all, it is for everyone regardless of faith or religious experience. No effort is ever made to change the faith choices of any young person who joins the group. That is why, for the past fifteen years, our youth fellowship has a membership that comes from many different religious traditions and is one of the largest in the city and for most of these years, the largest in the United Church congregations throughout the state.
We have a fun side! Scavenger Hunts, Mystery Rides, Overnights, Food, More Food and Still More Food, and many other activities that are just plain fun are featured throughout the yar. The group meets weekly, at a regular Sunday time that varies from year to year. We have a serious side! In order to fully help each person meet their greatest potential we offer a program that varies between pure social fun and serious discussion. Our serious meetings range from moral choices, service projects that benefit the whole community, to programs on college, career choices, and health-related decisions. We are dedicated to building the whole person and supporting youth in all life choices.
Going places! Our Senior High Fellowship is known for its travels. We feature one or mor events each year that take us to the wider world. Over the years, the group has toured the American West, South, Washington D.C., Lake Placid, N.Y., New York City, New Hampshire, Montreal, London, Paris, Germany, Italy and more. Each of these trips is supported by the generosity of our church, the work of the whole Youth Fellowship in fundraising, and by affordable contributions from each member of the youth fellowship.
